Kukio

The cultural and spiritual practices of Hawaiians provide the backdrop for Kukio that extends from the spiritual volcano behind the residential communities of Kukio to the waters of the Pacific Ocean. There is a small special rise above Kukio that offers a panorama of one of the most picturesque places on Earth. And, if you know where to look, even when there is a mauka shower, the sun will be shining at the shore.

Hawaiians say that this magical place is inhabited by the ancient spirits. Not too worry as they are considered friendly spirits. An historic site, Kukio is now home to the Kukio Golf and Beach Club with a Tom Fazio designed ten-hole practice short course. It’s the only property like it on the Big Island. Adjacent to the Hualalai, Kukio has no ties to a resort or other hospitality organization. Its sole purpose is to be the Club for property owners at Kukio. What does the Kukio Club offer residents? First, there is the full-service Kukio Beach Clubhouse featuring an open-air spa and fitness area, a swimming pool, an events lawn, dining pavilion and beach bar. Second is the management team, there to help you with any-and-all beach and ocean activities.

Golfers rejoice! On the mauka (mountain) side of the property is an 18-hole Championship golf course also designed by Tom Fazio. Men’s and women’s locker rooms, a restaurant and bar, and pro shop is also designed just for homeowners. The spectacular scene is so beautiful and dramatic that your eyes won’t believe what they are seeing: emerald greens, dark lava and turquoise blue oceans compete with each other – all winners!

House or property hunters, there is no place like this anywhere else in the world. Phase I cottages, hales, villas and single-family estate homes and lots encompass the practice course. Phase II or Maniniowale continues from Phase I but is set back from the ocean, overlooking the white sand beach at Kua Bay. It features single-family estate homes and homesites. While Phase 3 or Kaupulehu has oceanfront and second-tier homesites. This area includes its own Beach Club at Keonenui with a dining lanai, beach bar, swimming pool and event area with black sandy beach.

If you find that special viewpoint where you can see the sun shining, you will be blessed by the ancient spirits for sure.
